Welcome

The Academy was founded by Peter Morton B.E.M. in Queanbeyan 1962, and is considered one of the oldest martial arts clubs in Australia.

The Academy teaches a practical, non-competitive martial art to people of all ages with an emphasis on Self Defence. The techniques taught use an attacker’s strength to a defender’s advantage. These defensive strategies aim to initially evade, disable and finally immobilise an attacker. The syllabus includes the teachings of Jishukan Ryu 自修館流 (Jujitsu-Kempo founded by Shuho Sugita 1947); Judo 柔道 (founded by Jigoro Kano 1882), Boxing and aspects of modern Jujitsu.

Classes are conducted in a semi-formal environment. The aim is for students to enjoy themselves while improving personal skills such as coordination, reflexes, physical fitness, self control and self esteem.

The Academy Motto is “Be Master of yourself”

About Our Classes

Training The art taught by the Peter Morton Academy of Judo Jujitsu Karate has three basic influences: Kodokan Judo, Jujitsu and Kempo Karate. It is designed primarily as a self defence art.

Alternative Education in the Martial Arts A student may wish to participate in a martial art but may be deterred by the overt physical nature, dynamics and pressure to perform. The AEiM method is suitable for students unable to participate in a traditional system.

What Students Wear Once a student has made a decision to continue training they wear a martial arts uniform, called a judogi.

Instructors All instructors have coaching accreditation, first aid certification, sports trainer education and donate their time freely. Instructors are called ‘Sensei’.
